Proptonomy vs your PMS’s built-in AI: when it is enough, and what an operations layer adds on top.

Guesty and Hostaway both ship AI inside the PMS: replies that draft or send on their own, sentiment, message-to-task and assistants over your live data, at little or no extra cost. Proptonomy runs on top of both, so the question is not which one, but what an operations layer adds to the AI you already have.

If you run one PMS and its built-in AI answers your guests well, start there: it costs little or nothing extra and needs no new vendor. Add Proptonomy when the work after the message is the bottleneck: vendors chased to done in their chat apps, photos checked, calls in the same thread and one queue across several PMSs or clients.

Choose your PMS’s built-in AI when

  • You run a single PMS and want AI replies without another vendor, contract or integration.
  • Your staff already work in the PMS’s task manager and mobile app.

Where each one stops

The limits, on both sides.

PMS built-in AI

  • Neither vendor’s pages describe guest calls answered by AI.
  • Coordinating outside vendors in WhatsApp or Telegram, without the PMS’s staff app, is not described.
  • Each AI works inside its own PMS; portfolios spread across several PMSs are not addressed.
  • Hostaway marks API and MCP access for your own AI agent as “coming soon”.

Proptonomy

  • It is another vendor and another bill: priced per listing, on top of what you pay for the PMS.
  • No SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification yet.
  • Built for teams with cleaners and vendors; a single-listing host may not need the operations layer.

Switching from your PMS’s built-in AI

Three steps, and nothing goes quiet in between.

    Connect on top of the PMS

    Connect Proptonomy through Guesty’s marketplace or Hostaway’s API. It reads and drafts in observe mode, and writes nothing back to the PMS until you switch that on.

  2. 2

    Decide who replies

    Keep the PMS AI answering while Proptonomy observes. When an inbox meets your pass mark, turn off auto-send in the PMS for it, so a guest never gets two answers.

  3. 3

    Let the PMS stay the record

    Reservations, payouts and owner ledgers stay in the PMS. Proptonomy replies on the PMS’s own thread, and on Guesty it syncs tasks and notes too, so your team sees one history.

Proptonomy and your PMS’s built-in AI: questions

Use the built-in AI if it covers your work. Proptonomy adds what the Guesty and Hostaway pages do not describe: briefing and chasing outside vendors in their chat apps until the job is done, photo checks before the guest is told, AI answering guest calls, a check on every outgoing reply, and one queue across several PMSs or client organisations.

Not if you set it up per inbox. Proptonomy starts in observe mode and sends nothing. When you switch an inbox to auto-reply in Proptonomy, you turn the PMS AI’s auto-send off for that inbox.

Only what you switch on. Replies go back on the PMS’s own thread, and on Guesty, tasks, tags and notes can sync both ways. Destructive Guesty calls are blocked, and every write is logged.

Hostaway states that AI Replies and AI CoHost carry no add-on fee. Guesty lists ReplyAI as “Freemium” in its plan table and includes it in its Guesty Ultimate bundle; the exact limits are not published. Proptonomy is priced per listing on top of the PMS, with every product included and no setup fee, and quoted in writing for your portfolio.
