Bergensavisen: Bergen's largest short-term rental operator on the shadow hotel debate

Bergensavisen interviewed the founders of Heimby, Bergen's largest short-term rental operator, on the city's "shadow hotel" debate. Their argument: the debate is running well ahead of the numbers, and Airbnb's growth in Bergen has already peaked.

The figures they put to it, as of July 2025:

• Bergen had 2,199 active Airbnb listings, of which 286 were rented year round, or 0.19% of the city's housing.
• Airbnb guests spend an estimated 1.5 to 2 billion kroner a year in Bergen, roughly four times what they pay for the accommodation itself.
