Pillow Talk Sessions: we grew too fast and nearly lost everything
Njål Eliasson on the podcast about the growth that almost broke Heimby, and why the company now turns down properties it cannot run properly.
Njål Eliasson, co-founder of Heimby and Proptonomy, went on the Pillow Talk Sessions podcast to talk about the part of the story that does not usually get told: growing fast enough to nearly lose the business.
Heimby was founded in 2022 and today manages around 160 apartments in Bergen, with operations in seven Norwegian cities: Bergen, Oslo, Stavanger, Trondheim, Tromsø, Haugesund and Kristiansand. It has the most active Airbnb listings in Bergen.
The lesson was to stop chasing growth at any price. Heimby now turns down properties it cannot manage properly and scales with the season instead.
Proptonomy is the other answer to the same problem: rather than hiring a person for every additional building, put an AI teammate on the operations so a small team can run more units without the quality slipping.
